In December 2004, a small group of UP alumni -- former HK Consul Tess de Vega, former LabAtt Bernie Julve, Daisy Mandap, Leo Deocadiz, Arlene Robles, Mida & Benj Azada, Bev & Eli de Vera, Therese Necio-Ortega, Joey Ortega, Smiley Julve, Mr. and Mrs. Garry Galvez, Atty. Chato Gallo and Reggie Amigo -- gathered at the China Tee Club for a Christmas celebration. The result was the formation of the UP Alumni Association- Hong Kong (UPAA-HK), a non-profit organisation registered in accordance with the provisions of section 5A(1) of the Hong Kong Societies Ordinance. The UPAA-HK is duly accredited by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association Inc. The UPAA-HK aims to assist students of their alma mater and the Hong Kong Filipino community.

From a handful of members at one Christmas gathering, the organization has grown into a family of over a hundred. We are a diverse group of journalists, lawyers, social workers, engineers, community organisers, homemakers, media professionals, artists, business owners, teachers, and more.
