HONG KONG – UPAA-HK is fielding two all-Filipino teams at this year’s Oxfam Trailwalker, one of Hong Kong’s largest charity sporting events. Oxfam Trailwalker is an endurance challenge that gathers the most intrepid hikers in Hong Kong and overseas to conquer the 100-kilometer MacLehose Trail within 48 hours. The MacLehose Trail consists of 10 stages of varying terrain and difficulty. Each team is required to pass through checkpoints at each stage and complete the trail together. Oxfam Trailwalker 2010 is scheduled on Nov 19-21. The two UPAA-HK teams, comprising four members each, are among the 1,000 teams selected from 3,000-plus applications this year. Jerico Abila and Rex Aguado have been
appointed leaders of teams 0310 and 0536 respectively.
Wilbert Jarata has been selected as support captain for both teams. Abila, Aguado and Jarata – all incumbent officers of UPAA-HK – were also part of last year’s all-Filipino team that finished the 100-kilometer challenge in 36 hours 23 minutes. “Our all-Filipino team had a strong showing last year, and we hope to do even better this year,” says Aguado. “UPAA-HK aims to raise the profile of Filipinos in Hong Kong. We also hope to raise funds for Oxfam’s poverty alleviation projects in Asia.” UPAA-HK targets to raise at least HK$6,500 per team. Please support UPAA-HK teams 0310 and 0536.
